It was nice being surrounded by the smell of pastries and sweeted drinks of ground beans. You weren't what you'd call a coffee addict, but a nice cappuccino once in a while really brightened your mood. The instances where you'd enter a coffee shop weren't frequent if you had to say so yourself. You only learned to drink coffee a while back, so it had taken some time for you to get used to the bitter taste. The two shots of caramel and puff of cream weren't for nothing, after all.

In your group of friends you were the least 'addicted' to coffee and you held pride in that fact. But there was one guy you knew who was a perfect fit for the term. He could slurp up the entire content of every coffee machine in town, though, he would complain to you later on via calls or texts that he couldn't sleep and had all the energy in the world. He would keep you up all night with weird texts as if he had gotten drunk from the coffee.

One of your favourites was that one time he called you at 2 o'clock in the morning to philosophise about what would happen if Pinocchio said 'my nose will grow'. It was such a troublesome question, but absolutely worth hearing the struggle as he tossed and turned and in the end fell from his bed. The earthquake he caused had woken up his parents and, well, he got a nice earful. He'd forgotten to end the call with you.

You were rather concerned about what effects your boyfriend's super coffee consumption would have for him in the long run, so you didn't notify him of your visits to the local coffee shop or else he would have another excuse to buy coffee. That's to say, only if you were together, you'd go and order a cup. Or in his case, one to drink, one to go and one to heat up himself the next morning. He would always pick on you for worrying about him drinking so much coffee. He'd forgotten how hard your punches were.

You found yourself sitting in the coffee shop after school one day, looking out the window as the sun shined lazily through the clouds overhead. This was the one closest to school and the one your boyfriend and you would visit together. Thinking back on it now, the only thing that had given him the power to actually ask you out without dying of blushing was probably the coffee he had gulped down right before. He'd forgotten to take a mint before asking as well.

Taking another slurp of your coffee, you noticed a big group in a very familiar outfit nearing the shop. With your head tilted to the side and narrowed eyes, you nearly choked on your coffee. You quickly knocked your fist on your chest as you coughed harshly. They were coming nearer and you didn't know what to do. Oh, no. He'd definitely think you betrayed him. Even without looking at his clean shaven head, you could recognise his loud voice from outside.

You quickly turned around in your seat with your back to the door as it opened with a ring.

''Thank you for today, Tanaka-senpai, Nishinoya-senpai!'' you could hear Hinata yell from across the street. You didn't know if it was a good or a bad thing the rest of the group didn't come in. You had less of a chance of being caught. Your boyfriend was a little oblivious, after all. Peeking from behind the window you saw the rest of the volleyball club head the other way as they waved goodbye.

Nishinoya's voice rang out, ''Yeah, no problem, Shouyou!''

The door closed shut. Your heart was erratically beating in your chest as you did your best to hide your face from the duo's sight.

''Noya-san, do you think I should order a cappuccino to surprise (y/n)-chan? I want to see my (y/n)-chan smile!'' your boyfriend pondered rather openly as they walked up to a free table just a few meters away from you.

Nishinoya gasped, ''That's a great idea, Ryuu! You're such a gentleman!''

Tanaka laughed, ''Right? Right?!''

You couldn't help but smile just a little as you heard them talk. A few people walking past looked a bit weirded out by you sitting so close to the window. You awkwardly smiled and nodded your head at them in an attempt to shake off the attention.

''(Y/n)-chan never wants to drink coffee without me, so I guess I have to order another one,'' Tanaka evilly laughed as Nishinoya chuckled at his statement.

You gritted your teeth at Tanaka's irresponsible behaviour. You knew he was lying when he promised he'd tone it down on the coffee.

Now it was all a matter of packing your stuff, paying and leaving the place without getting noticed. Easier said than done, but you didn't plan on having your boyfriend find out you were here either.

''Being in a relationship must be great, huh?'' Nishinoya melancholicly spoke with his cheek planted on the table. ''I wonder when Shimizu-san will acknowledge me...''

''Yeah, it's amazing,'' Tanaka folded his arms and proudly leaned back in his chair, ''I'm sorry I had to leave you on the trip to nirvana, buddy. But I'm on the freaking highway to heaven.''

You nearly squealed in your seat. It took you long enough to rival Shimizu, so it was nice your efforts had really paid off. It didn't feel right to eavesdrop, so you put on your jacket very silently and took your schoolbag to leave.

Right when you were about to stand up, a waiter came over with a friendly smile. You laughed pathetically to yourself; you were done for.

''How was the cappuccino?'' he asked politely, putting the cup on his empty tray.

You smiled back awkwardly, ''I-It was good, thank you.''

The moment the waiter walked away, you thought you could escape in his shadow...

...but to no avail.

Nishinoya pointed past Tanaka's shoulder, ''Isn't that (y/n)?''

''Eeehh?! (Y/n)-chan?''

You stiffly turned around, greeting your boyfriend with a smile, ''H-Hey, Ryuu...''

''You came here without me?!''

The question came out more like a statement as he stood up and pointed his finger accusingly at you. A few faces were turned to you at Tanaka's surprised exclamation, but soon turned back as he gave them a very intimidating face (''what are you looking at, punk?!'').

You held up your hands before you, ''I-It's not what it looks like! I- I just-''

The look of betrayal of trust was written all over his face as he dejectedly - also very dramatically - looked away, ''I'm so hurt...''

''Ryuu?'' you softly called out as you took hold of his hand, making him go rigid as always. However, he still refused to look at your adorable face. You knew he'd crumble if you gave him puppy dog eyes or kept touching him. You pushed him back in his seat and sat yourself next to him. Nishinoya watched with a glint in his eyes and a smirk on his face.

''I will only forgive you...'' Tanaka breathed in deeply,

''if you call me Ryuu-senpai.''

Your face went emotionless.

Nishinoya recoiled.

Tanaka turned to look at you and could nearly see the vein popping on the side of your head.

With a sickeningly sweet smile, you said, ''Ryuu... we are in the same year.''

He nervously laughed, ''Y-Yeah, but I am still o-older than you, so it w-works.. R-Right, Noya-san, right?''

Nishinoya shook his head at Tanaka in fear; his best buddy had just turned to the highway to hell and Nishinoya did not sign for that.

You sighed, ''If that's how you'll forgive me, then I guess I have no choice...''

Both Tanaka and Nishinoya were left speechless by your words. They probably wondered how you had become so obedient. You had been just as rowdy and rough on the edges as Tanaka himself most days. You couldn't help it. You did break a promise and you loved your boyfriend to death, so there was only one thing left to do.

''Will you forgive me...'' you started, gulping down the pit in your throat, ''Ryuu-s-s-... Ryuu-senpai?''

It was a given the two boys nearly went flying, but instead deflated like balloons as they yelled out boisterous comments about Tanaka's achievement.

''Ryuu! this is true love!''

''I can feel it, Noya-san! (Y/n)-chan is my one true love!''

You had to hold your obnoxious friend down and your boyfriend back from taking off his shirt in a public place like the coffee shop.

He'd forgotten you weren't afraid to call the cops and report him.
what even is this monster that i created
Request for iwaizumihajimeme! <3
You didn't give a prompt for Tanaka, so this is where I gravitated towards ;-;
In the first place I wrote another story, but I started writing this and liked this one better xD

So I thought it was funny if Tanaka'd feel offended if reader ever went to a coffee shop without him bc they always get coffee together, but reader wants him to drink less coffee so reader didn't tell him... does that make sense? T-T

Comments and the like are much appreciated <3

sometimes I have to remember that I'm reading a females point of view and not a male one. I loved this though, very cute. :'|
