//tsukishima kei x reader - valentine theme

With a sweet smile plastered on your face, you made your way through the beautiful green school yards to the humongous gym located at the very end of the path. In the far distance you could already make out the gentle sounds of collisions and squeaks between skin and soft leather, layered hardwood floor and gym shoes. The entirety summed up to become one of the most calming melodies in the weirdest way imaginable.

Silently high-fiving yourself for not getting their practice time wrong, you tried to envision the next boisterous act you were going to pull off. It wasn't as if it was a one-way thing you had going on, but either way you felt the need to head into battle with nothing less than enough ammunition. After all, you could expect the same thing from your opponent. The fact you'd been imagining this scene the whole day had left you reasonably satisfied with the impudent phrases you were able to come up with.

Climbing up the few steps at the entrance of the gym, you discreetly peeked through the double doors that were left ajar. There was nothing you could do to prevent your lips from curling up when you caught sight of your delicious prey. Suppressing a sigh of awe that was about to escape when you saw him high in the air, blocking the ball from coming over the net, you headed forward with only one objective in mind.

''Tsukki!'' You tried your best to sound as awfully and nauseatingly sweet as you could. You only earned an uninterested look from the blond male as he turned around and locked gazes with you.

Out of sheer curiosity, a few of his teammates' heads turned to look at where you stood in the entrance. A few were already in awe of simply your presence and others were solely focused on practising and continuing to further improve the quality of their skills.

''What do you want, kickstand? You miss me already?'' Tsukishima asked with an amused yet slightly cautious tone in his low voice. He got off court and came over to stand in front of you.

''Remember how you told me you wanted a relationship so badly last time we talked?'' You lied, enjoying the look of confusion that emerged on his bespectacled face.

Tsukishima raised his eyebrows, ''I recall no such-''

''Well, look!'' You spoke excitedly, earning more curious looks from the volleyball team as you reached into your bag, ''I got you a girlfriend!''

''Geez, thanks,'' Tsukishima spoke when you showed him his new girlfriend. His sceptic look quickly washed over with a deadly glare. ''You got me a bottle of lotion...''

''You're very welcome,'' You nodded courteously, smiling in victory that was celebrated all too soon.

''Kageyama, why did Tsukki get a bottle of lotion?''

''Sh-Shut up, Hinata!''

''But hey, at least it smells nice, unlike you,'' Tsukishima smirked, feigning disgust as he waved a hand in front of his nose, ''Ever heard of taking a shower?''

''Eh?'' You blinked, staring up at the amazingly tall and handsome guy in front of you, ''You don't recognize this smell?''

Once again Tsukishima was left confused and it made your heart sing in delight. ''What are you talking about, shorty?''

''I just thought you'd know it since, you know, I got it from your mum last night,'' you winked at him, leaving him with a somewhat blush of either anger or embarrassment on his cheeks. The team tried their best to hold back their laughter and snickers as they witnessed your conversation. Even the coach and teacher found you amusing, watching you bicker back and forth with sassy comebacks flying from one person to the other.

''Well, no, I was too busy with this thing called life,'' Tsukishima smirked devilishly, ''Maybe I could lend you some. It seriously sounds like you need it.''

''Ha, that's funny,'' you scoffed, trying your hardest not to drown in the honey pools that were his eyes, ''Last time I heard that, I fell off my dinosaur.''

Something twinkled in Tsukishima's eyes, the only sign of him discovering a perfect opportunity. He tilted his face up in that cocky way of his and snorted, ''At least there's a difference between a dinosaur and your love life. We have actual evidence the dinosaur existed.''

Feeling your own eye twitching at his stupid comeback, you were cut off when you were about to snap back.

''Tsukishima! Back to practice! You can talk to your love later!'' Coach Ukai commented from across the court, making you both head the other way with crossed arms.

With a scoff, Tsukishima got back onto court, ''I'd never even consider dating that mess. Way too troublesome.''

''Hmph! As if I'd ever date him...'' You mumbled back, feeling your cheeks heat up at your laughable attempt to convince yourself. Not that very deep down you knew the truth would certainly speak otherwise.

''Rest of the team too! So, s-stop laughing and get to work!'' Coach Ukai ordered, holding back his laughter himself, ''Nishinoya, give him back his lotion!''

~

Just like any other regular, boring school day, you had been spacing out in class. The graphite of your convenience store pencil scratched against the surface of your old notebook. The messy lines you had jotted down had become this amazing piece of artwork you'd cobbled together. Nothing exciting had happened. Tsukishima was seated behind you in class, so you also weren't provided with the privilege of watching him - or rather the back of his head - as you dreamed away.

Watching your pencil go to and fro without a single purpose, you suddenly felt something coming in contact with the back of your head. It took you an unbelievable amount of willpower to not snap out loud in class. But since you weren't particularly this teacher's favourite, you weren't particularly keen on getting on his bad side.

God knows how many hits later, you turned your head to catch whoever was so smart to toy with you. You were immediately greeted with Tsukishima who ordinarily held his hand up and waved with a sickeningly perfect sweet smile on his face. You silently prayed for your brain to save that image for later recollection.

Finally, after two dreadful hours, filled with nonsense about the nature of science and getting hit with crumpled pieces of paper every now and then, the bell rang. For one, you were delighted about the fact Tsukishima's attention was primarily focused on you throughout class, but, God, did he make you want to pull your hair out of your head. Not having the energy to do anything even remotely productive during lunch time, you remained seated and only turned around to glare at the - irritatingly handsome - culprit.

''I'm going to kill you,'' you threatened, holding onto the back of your chair tightly to keep yourself from lashing out profanities.

''Please, the mere sight of you is already taking care of it,'' Tsukishima replied, hitting you yet again with a piece of crumpled paper, but this time right on the forehead.

Rolling your eyes, you couldn't help yourself from letting out a soft laugh, seeing as he did the same, ''I'm already visualizing duct tape over that pretty mouth of yours.''

''Having inappropriate thoughts, are we?'' He smirked, leaning forward to close the distance between your faces considerably.

Already could you feel the bubbly sensation in your lower stomach arise. Somehow it had you in a small daze as you kept scanning his face now it was this close to yours. The little moles he had on his cheeks, how his short blond tresses framed his face beautifully and how the glasses he wore made his golden brown eyes shinier, clearer than they already were.

''Hey now, nobody asked what you do on a daily basis, Tsukki,'' you smiled back, ignoring the rapid beating of your heart as it drummed in your ears and the contraction of your lungs as it seemed to get more complicated to breathe normally.

Tsukishima snickered, ''The only inappropriate thing in my mind is that ugly face of yours.''

You weren't able to fully ignore the pain you felt in your chest as he uttered those words. Your smile faltered slightly, but nonetheless you couldn't back down now and you certainly couldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing you break down in front of him.

''I didn't know your dick belonged in your personality instead of your pants.'' You smiled a little meekly before turning back around in your seat and placing your chin in the palm of your hand to watch the clear skies outside.

''Tsukki, that wasn't very nice...'' You could hear Yamaguchi whisper to Tsukishima, who was seated beside him.

''Shut up...'' He scoffed.

There they were again, the streamers, the balloons, the hearts. Yet somehow it remained a pretty normal day for you. Obviously, you couldn't help but notice all the love letters poking out from boys' lockers. Or how shy girls fidgeted when they approached the person of their liking and handed them the boxes of home-made chocolate. The only thing that this whole holiday made you do at the end of the day was sigh... really loudly.

''Everything alright?'' Yamaguchi asked you when all the students were filing out the classroom and layers of warm colours filled the classroom through the windows instead.

''Yeah, thanks for your concern,'' you smiled tenderly at him as you grabbed your bag and turned around for you both to get out of that horrible place quickly, only to be instantly met with a grinning Tsukishima.

He chuckled, looking down at you and Yamaguchi, ''What's up your bum sideways?''

You sighed, ignoring the rumble of the chocolate box in your bag, ''This is an A, B conversation, so please C your way out, Tsukki.''

''That was very clever, tornado,'' Tsukishima replied, hands on his hips as he leaned in as if provoking you.

Taken aback by his weird words, you looked at him confused and it seems like your freckled friend didn't understand it either, ''Why the hell did you just call me a tornado?''

''Because you're a natural disaster.''

Although it was meant as an insult, you could see the way his lips curled up in a teasing smile. The way his eyes lit up in joy of messing with you didn't go unnoticed either. All the more reason for your heart to flutter, but drown at the same time. Subconsciously, you pulled your bag closer to your side, taking the not given box in it in hiding. Who'd ever be able to win a guy like that over, right?

''Why do you guys even hate each other?'' Yamaguchi sweat-dropped as he stood between you and Tsukishima, watching your conversation like always.

''Eh?'' you blinked, looking over at Tsukishima for confirmation, ''We don't hate each other.''

He nodded affirmatively and moved a finger from him to you as if to indicate the space between, ''This is just how we communicate.''

''A-Ah, right...'' The freckled boy smiled nervously, ''I'll leave you to it then! See you guys tomorrow!''

''Yamaguchi!'' Tsukishima called out for the boy to return, but to no avail. Like all your other classmates, who didn't have anything interesting to do on this holiday of love, he had already made his way home.

With a blush rising to your cheeks, you spoke up, ''Well, I guess I'll just head home then, before you turn me into stone with that cold stare of yours.''

''So...'' Tsukishima spoke, ''There wasn't anything you had to say to me?''

Once more, your hand was placed on the spot where the chocolate box laid. Slowly you started considering whether to throw away your surprisingly comfortable, fun friendship to confess your silent feelings or to not say a thing and endure all your cropped up feelings throughout high school.

''I-Is there something you expected me to say?'' you asked back, meeting his gaze that made you both look away. Somewhere you could only hope it had something to do with Valentine's day, but that possibility was soon out the window.

He adjusted the headphones around his neck and lifted his glasses higher up the bridge of his nose, ''Just another one of your stupid comebacks...''

''About what Yamaguchi-kun said earlier...'' Taking a very deep breath, you gulped down the pit in your throat, clenched your fists and spoke with a soft voice, ''I don't hate you, you know...''

Tsukishima nodded, still avoiding eye contact, ''That goes both ways, I guess...''

You felt slightly relieved at the words he had spoken. ''Then, I guess, you can have this.''

With a confident but quivering smile, you reached inside your bag and took out the little in red decorated box for him. Tsukishima's eyes widened slightly and his gaze shifted from the box to you and back as if trying to understand what the hell was going on.

''Just take it and let's never talk about this, like ever,'' you commanded with positively flaming cheeks when he took the box.

You were about to move past him when he grabbed you by the arm and stopped you from doing so. When you looked up to demand him to let you go, you could feel your heart fluttering. He was chewing down one of the chocolates with his favourite flavour of strawberry shortcake. It looked like he was somewhat enjoying the chocolate, but the uneasy look probably had to do with the fact he was ashamed of his actions. It was funny how he looked like a small, obedient child against his will.

''Tsukki?'' you asked, feeling his grip on your arm loosen.

The tall volleyball player looked down at the box and took out a chocolate. One thing you certainly didn't expect was for it to be held out in front of your mouth. For a good few seconds you just stared in utter amazement at the handsome boy who wasn't like anything you'd seen before.

''Just take it and let's not talk about this, like ever,'' he murmured, quoting your words. This time he turned to look back at you as you stood not even a meter away and urged you to just eat the chocolate.

Letting a soft laugh escape, you opened your mouth slightly and he slowly dumped in the ball of chocolate, his soft yet calloused fingertips grazing the skin of your lips.

''Thanks,'' you smiled a little anxiously, gulping down the chocolate. When the blond male had leisurely eaten the rest of the content of the box as you waited for him, you walked out of the classroom together.

To anyone passing by, it would've been obvious that Tsukishima, as well as yourself, were embarrassed at his unusual actions. His fingertips slowly came in contact with yours as you walked side by side through the silent, festively decorated hallways. Your digits started playing affectionately with each other before Tsukishima entirely layered his hand over yours, intertwining your fingers. The little act had you in a slight daze, but you walked closer to him and indulged in the warmth he gave off.

Looking up at him wasn't the best idea for he simply avoided your gaze, but the grip on your hand never loosened. Right when you turned back to look down the path you were walking, a pair of soft lips came in contact with your cheek and they disappeared as quick as they came. The stupid butterflies in your stomach, however, were as present as ever.
